David Beckham, the global sporting icon, unveiled the new Autumn Winter ’09 collection of Emporio Armani underwear at Selfridges. To coincide with the launch, a huge poster was erected above the main entrance covering the full height of the building. The poster revealed David Beckham in a pair of navy Armani trunks with gold waistband, holding on to a rope in a sexy pose. He came to the event dressed in a navy blue Giorgio Armani single breasted suit, greeted by thousands of enthusiastic Londoners who turned up despite the tube strike.
David Beckham was welcomed on to the stage by TV sports presenter Gaby Logan, and then proceeded to greet 300 VIP fans who had been lucky enough to qualify for the event. David Beckham has modelled Armani underwear since 2008, and was recently joined by his wife Victoria. Giorgio Armani believes it to be a very strong partnership, and said, 'David has a great sense of style and is an inspiring role model; this is what makes him the perfect partner for Emporio Armani underwear. I am very excited that David Beckham's new campaign image was unveiled exclusively in his home country and where better than at such an iconic retail destination as Selfridges.'
David joins a list of very famous celebrities who have made a personal appearance at Selfridges, although he felt slightly embarrassed at so many people seeing him in a pair of underwear. Despite his slight embarrassment, he said he felt proud to attend the event and that enjoyed the actual photo-shoot. David constantly works out, as keeping in shape is essential to keep playing top flight football and represent England at international level. He therefore showed off a very trim physique in the ad campaign.
Girorgio Armani also said that "David is truly a modern-day icon, celebrated both on and off the football pitch. He has a great sense of style and he is also very sexy.
