About Calvin Klein Underwear

Becoming ‘the first designer underwear brand’ is an accolade that firmly belongs to Calvin Klein. Founded in 1982, CK underwear has consistently been the top selling mens designer underwear brand around the globe for almost 30 years. Their products are easily recognised with the distinctive branded waistband, which many wearers show off as a fashion statement. Calvin Klein underwear entered popular culture through the medium of film, making an appearance in the ‘Back to the Future’. Michael J.Fox’s character, Marty McFly, travels back to the 1950s where a young lady believes his name to be Calvin because it’s written on his underwear!!

Since the beginning there have been many additions to the CK underwear range, using technology for a superior product. Although the collection has grown and evolved, the underwear still holds true to Calvin Klein’s original concept. At the brand's 15th anniversary in 1997 Calvin Klein remarked, “We turned the idea of underwear on its head, gave a utilitarian product a designer sensibility. We paid attention to details, re-shaped and re-fit the basics, focused on comfort, quality and construction. We made underwear sexy, something fun for everyone to enjoy.”

CK Underwear Advertising

Since the beginning Calvin Klein Underwear has been synonymous with an innovative product, and sexy advertising. Some of the world’s most renowned fashion photographers have worked with CK underwear to create the brands iconic advertising campaigns such as; Bruce Weber, Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Mario Sorrenti, Kelly Klein and Mario Testino.

The first ever CK underwear campaign featured U.S. Olympic pole vaulter Tom Hintnaus, shot in Greece in 1982 by legendary photographer Bruce Weber. In 1992 Herb Ritts was responsible for shooting the iconic images of a semi-naked Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg in just their underwear. Many other stars have posed for Calvin Klein underwear including the international soccer star Freddie Ljungberg. The 2007 till present campaign features Djimon Hounsou, star of Gladiator, shot by Peter Lindbergh.
